whoa, back in the saddle

February 7, 2016 by the life I picked

Well, January was not the ideal month to aim for daily (ah, ok, near-daily) posts, as I had scheduled site support for the life I picked that would preclude me, for a few days here and there, from actually being on the site…small scheduling detail that I overlooked.

Now it’s February and we’re here to play catch up and barrel through this leap month. Always seems like a little gift, a parcel waiting at month’s end, an extra day, 2.29. A two-point conversion eh, since the Super Bowl is tomorrow.

February is…a cold month, normally, though not so much here right now, and it is getting downright weird, the relatively mild temp’s and lack of snow. February is also the month of Valentine’s Day; the month of my mother’s birthday– Mum is gone, but as most anyone who has lost their mother will confirm, your mother is never gone; and a few other key birthdays. Also the long President’s Day weekend which this year coincides with Valentine’s– or is it that way every year and I just didn’t notice before?

The fairly hideous, in its present incarnation, Valentine’s Day actually holds personal significance for me, so I try not to trash it outright. If only it weren’t such a friggin’ commercialized pile of shit kind of day, another one like New Year’s Eve where you better be coupled up else have that serious stash of Xanax ready. Serious, now.

But back to the Super Bowl for a moment: didn’t it used to be in January? What’s going on, I am confused. And they took away the Roman numerals this year, oh God, supposedly in honor of the 50th (not Lth) anniversary. We all know what’s going down with that.

The Super Bowl has always been one of those huge American events that left me feeling like, well, not so American. I don’t really dig wings or dip or nachos. I barely know the most famous teams and players. I never had a football fan husband (or any husband for that matter) who pulled me in and/or tutored me in the pigskin way.

Too bad. I am clearly missing out on so much.

Meantime back in the real world, we are cooking and I’ll post about that tomorrow. Mississippi Roast, oh yeah baby, Lee Bros. creamed corn on the side. And then a day in the les collines kitchen, early February and nearly 60 degrees. Would someone please tell me, wtf, cue the late great Marvin Gaye, what’s going on?

Jeez. Not to mention the whacky, endlessly entertaining presidential campaign. Yikes!!! February 2016, you leap month you, one month might not be enough, xo
